Candidate Forums - April 6 Municipal Election

What are Candidate Forums? 

The League of Women Voters of Champaign County, the NAACP, Champaign County Branch and The News-Gazette are  co-sponsoring candidate forums for the 2021 elections.  Candidate Forums offer local residents the opportunity to hear from candidates in an election in a nonpartisan setting.

Spring Municipal Elections Are Coming!

​The cities of Champaign and Urbana are holding primary elections February 23. The county-wide municipal (consolidated) election is April 6. The information here is about the February 23 primary; we'll add April 6 information as that election gets closer. 
 
Primaries will be held in the cities of Champaign and Urbana. All candidates in these primaries are running as Democrats. 

• City of Champaign Township for Township Supervisor
• City of Urbana for Mayor, City Clerk, Aldermen Wards 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7.

Eligible, registered voters in the cities of Champaign and Urbana can vote in the February 23 primary. By state law, Illinois voters are not required to be members of an established political party to vote in a primary election. However, each voter must select the party’s ballot he or she wants to cast.

Recordings of the 2021 Forums will be listed below as they are made available. You will also be able to browse them on the League's YouTube website.  Check back on or after January 12 to access and view the Forums for the February 23, 2021 primary election.

Special note on canceled forums:  If all candidates for a race are not present, a forum wil be canceled. Forums are canceled when one candidate in the race notifies us that s/he will not appear, or fails to respond after multiple attempts to communicate.   See this announcement for why the League doesn't do "Empty Chair" forums.  ​
