2026-2027 LWVCC Updated Local Positions Adopted

Like the national, state, and other local Leagues, the LWVCC takes positions on issues of importance to our League. This year, proposed changes to the LWVCC Local Positions were reviewed at an all-member consensus meeting in March 2026 where revisions were made. The revised Local Positions were approved by the Board and presented to the membership for a vote at the LWVCC Annual Meeting on May 21, 2026. The updated position statements were adopted and are available here.

Local position statements are reviewed each year before the annual meeting. All LWVCC members have the opportunity to provide input on our local League positions through the consensus process. Doing so ensures we remain a grassroots organization and allows our President to speak for the League on current issues and concerns of the community. Adopting Local Positions, and noting their relationship to LWVIL and LWVUS positions, increases our impact by presenting one voice representing all our members.

Election Security in Illinois: From Registration Through Ballot Counting

Wednesday, September 23, 7:00 - 8:00 pm, Zoom
Confidence in elections has declined. A March 2026 PBS News/NPR/Marist poll found that, although 66% of Americans were confident their state or local government would run a fair and accurate election, 34% expressed little or no confidence that the November elections would be fair and accurate, up from 24% previously. Election security is clearly on people’s minds—and accurate local information matters.
With the November 3rd Midterm General Election just months away, the Program Team is pleased that Matt Dietrich, Public Information Officer at the Illinois State Board of Elections, will be our guest speaker at the first Keeping It Local of the League year.

Dietrich is frequently quoted in state and national media on election security.
