Help People Register to Vote

1.  Get trained to register people -  The League offers Voter Registration 101 to teach people how to register people using the one-page paper form or the online site offered by the State Board of Elections.
  • Sign up to be on the waiting list for the next Voter Registration 101 training session. Send an email to: info@lwvchampaigncounty.org with "Voter Registration 101" in the subject line. Training sessions are also announced on this web site and in the League's newsletter The Voter.
  • Get a preview of the Voter Registration 101 training materials on the Training and Presentation Resources page. (Handouts #012, #013 and #030.)

Update for Fall 2020:  Currently we are not scheduling in-person training sessions due to the coronavirus situation. However the Voter Registration team is actively planning some ways to reach out online to remind citizens to register and vote. If you'd like to help, send them an email at info@lwvchampaigncounty.org with "I want to help with Voter Registration" in the subject line.

2.  Become a Deputy Registrar - The Champaign County Clerk's office (CCCO) offers training on how to become a Deputy Registrar. A Deputy Register is a person who has attended and passed training offered by the CCCO. They can both register people to vote and authenticate their identities, which streamlines their process when voting.  Deputy Registrars have to follow procedures as outlined in the training. Visit the CCCO Deputy Registration page for qualifications, guidelines and an application for training. It also shows the training slides, which provides a lot of information about the Deputy Registrar role. If you're already a Deputy Registrar, these slides are available for review.

Update for Fall 2020: We will post information on the status of the Deputy Registrar program as it becomes available.

3. Participate in voter registration events  - The League is involved in a variety of voter registration events and volunteers are often needed to help citizens fill out a paper or online form. Of note are the voter registration days offered in local high schools. The best way to be notified personally of upcoming voter registration events is to take the Voter Registration 101 training. You can then ask to be on the list of people available to help.  Or, send an email to info@lwvchampaigncounty.org with "I want to help with Voter Registration" in the subject line.

Update for Fall 2020: Due to the coronavirus concerns, the League is not currently sponsoring in-person voter registration events. However the Voter Registration team is actively planning some ways to reach out online to remind citizens to register and vote. If you'd like to help, send them an email at info@lwvchampaigncounty.org with "I want to help with Voter Registration" in the subject line.

Voter Registration events and training are organized by the Voter Registration team.
