On March 9, LWVCC hosted a Timely Topic Webinar on Criminal Justice Reform. In February 2021, Illinois passed the Pretrial Fairness Act, a sweeping set of reforms intended to curb the overuse of jails and end the use of money bond, due to go into effect in 2023.
Sarah Staudt, Senior Policy Analyst at the Chicago Appleseed Center for Fair Courts explained the changes and how they will make our courts more fair and our communities more safe, and what steps local communities must take to make sure that the new law is implemented fairly and effectively. Midterm Elections 2022!
Mark your calendar for the primary election June 28 and the general election November 8.
This year, because of redistricting, many more Illinois offices will be up for election: one US Senate member, all US Representatives, all state officials, all Illinois House and Senate members, all Champaign County board members, and some judicial positions as well as some local positions throughout the county.
