Learn About the Candidates

Information on this page refers to the Municipal Election, April 4, 2023. In a Muncipal Election, voters decide who will serve in city, town, and village government and on school and community college boards.  In some races, candidates are unopposed--only one candidate is running for that office. Some races, however, are contested---there are more candidates running for that office than can hold it.  Your vote helps decide who will serve as our local elected officials for the next four years.

The Big Picture: What Offices and Candidates Are Involved in the April 4 Municipal Election?

Candidate Guide: Your One-Stop Source for Candidate Information

Picture
Candidate  Guide: VoteChampaign has partnered with LWVCC to compile a Candidate Guide covering contested races in Champaign County.  This site can help you get ready to vote with a minimum of time and effort. Like LWVCC, VoteChampaign is nonpartisan and endorses no candidates.

The guide features questions and answers from each candidate and includes  links to information provided by candidates - website homepage, social media, email, and phone number - making it easy for a voter to do further research or contact each candidate.  There are also links to any available candiate forum videos.

Candidate Forum February 26, 2023

Picture
A consortium of five local civic organizations and the News-Gazette joined together to hold a town hall-type forum on February 26, from 1:30-5:30, for all candidates in the races for Champaign mayor, Champaign City Council, and Champaign Unit 4 School Board. There was also an informal meet & greet opportunity with Parkland College Board of Trustees during the last half hour.

The consortium consists of League of Women Voters of Champaign County, ILVOTE of Champaign County, NAACP Champaign County Branch, Bend the Arc Jewish Action: Champaign-Urbana, and Indivisible Rural Illinois.

The forum took place at the Champaign Public Library. The three Champaign municipal races each had their own time for prepared statements from all the candidates and a moderated Q&A session. After each session, attendees mingled with  the candidates.

If you missed this event, the videos are available on the LWVCC YouTube site.
