Timely Topics:  Facts vs Misinformation - Some Practical Stategies. November 10, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm.  Members of the LWVCC Task Force on Countering Misinformation about Elections - Karen Fresco, Sara Kelley, Ann Prisland, Mary Ellen Wuellner - led the discussion.
A video of this presentation (1 hour 7 minutes)  is available on LWVCC's YouTube site.  Or, view a pdf of the "Truth Sandwich" slides from the presentation.
Attendees had a chance to:
  1. Hear a brief update on three exciting projects the Task Force is developing.
  2. Scan the Task Force's web page and learn what resources are there for you.
  3. Be made aware of a list of fact check sites that you will find useful.
  4. Learn how to construct a "truth sandwich" - a clever technique when you are responding to misinformation.
Participants left the meeting with practical strategies to deal with misinformation encountered  in  daily life.

Here is some pre-meeting reading material used for the meeting -  an interview with professor and media expert Kathryn Hall Jamieson on Facts vs. Misinformation.

LWVCC Book Club Nov 9

11/9/2021

League of Women Voters Book Club, November 9, 7:00 pm - 9:15 pm. Moderated by League Member Karla Peterson. This month, the Book club  discussed  The Premonition - A Pandemic Story by Michael Lewis, described as ". A  sweeping indictment of the CDC and our national health system"
Take a look at this short yet compelling interview from CBS This Morning a few days ago - with author Michael Lewis. And,  from The Guardian:  "The Premonition is the story of a group of medics and scientists who attempt to get the US government to take pandemic response seriously….Lewis’s main subjects are a group of extraordinarily dedicated, resourceful, and conscientious people who understand how drastically underprepared America is for a viral pandemic. They know what needs to be done to redress the situation but are up against the fragmented dysfunction of the federal government.”

This Zoom meeting was open to the public.
