This is a League program you will want to attend.  We are fortunate to be able to hear from two local leaders on evolving police practices:
  • Michael Schlosser, Ph.D. Director of Police Training Institute, University of Illinois
  • Alice Cary, Chief of Police and Executive Director of Public Safety, University of Illinois

Dr. Schlosser is credited for his groundbreaking efforts toward improving police practices through implementing innovative curriculum.  These include courses such as Policing in a Multiracial Society, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Questioning (LGBTQ) Ally Training, and Police Officer Wellness.

Chief Cary has leadership experience in developing and implementing innovative strategies for building solid community partnerships that respect the diversity of a community.

Both Dr. Schlosser and Chief Cary have served as police officers prior to their current positions.
  • Dr. Schlosser retired as a police lieutenant for the Rantoul Police Department after 20 years of service.
  • Chief Cary has worked in just about every capacity of law enforcement, including police officer, sheriff's deputy, state trooper, and as a criminal investigator.

Attendees gained insight into police practices that are evolving in our community, especially given society's current challenges. This webinar is past but  now available on LWVCC's YouTube site.
