Frequently Asked Questions
The League has many different teams and activities, so it can be a challenge to know who's doing what and where to go for information. Below is a list of questions that many new (and experienced) members have about how the League operates. Send any suggestions for new questions to the Member Servies team.
Basics: How Do I......
See who's in the League?
Browse the LWVCC Member Directory. New members receive a paper copy. It's updated around August and resent to all members. If you don't have one, or need a replacement, contact Carol Bosley, Member Services team. You can also view or download an abbreviated version from the Member Corner page.
Find out what the chapter's teams are?
See the LWVCC's organization chart and team list on the How Our Chapter Is Organized page.
Learn more about a particular team?
1. See the short description of each team at the How Our Chapter Is Organized page.
2. Use your Member Directory to contact the person listed as team lead by email. Ask for a meeting/conversation about what the team does. 3. If you're interested after the conversation, ask the team lead if you can come to a team meeting as a guest or observer. If the team is not meeting, ask how you can help. |
Attend an online League meeting?
The League uses Zoom for most of its group meetings. Members are usually sent an invitation to a meeting that includes a link to click to join the meeting. If you don't know how to use Zoom, it's a good idea to do a practice session beforehand. Ask your teammates or team leader to give you a start. Another alternative is to contact the Member Services team for help.
Find the League's social media sites, email and YouTube channel?
Here are the links for each: Notice that there are icons (little gray circles) for each of these at the bottom of every page of this site.
Find help when I don't know who to contact?
Do you have a question not listed here? Need more information on something? Use the general League email: info@lwvchampaigncounty.org to ask for more. This email is monitored by board member James Manrique, who forwards all questions to the right team lead or other contact person.

Team Needs: How Do I......
Find volunteers for a League event?
1. Contact the Volunteer Team by email at volunteer@lwvchampaigncounty.org.
2. In your email, share a bit about the event, including: dates/times, purpose, kind of help needed, number of people needed, whether training will be provided and whether the volunteers should be League members or can also be community volunteers. 3. The team will contact you to ask any questions. 4. Please note that sometimes names can be suggested quickly but often we need to send out a recruitment email to our list, so some lead time is needed. |
Donate expenses for a League activity?
As teams are developing programs or activities for LWVCC, they sometimes choose to pay for some expense, such as copying handouts, out of their own pockets. These payments are a kind of donation. Treasurer Deb Busey would like to know about such donations because the information helps her build a realistic picture of expenses for the League budget each year. Send an email to Deb with information on the activity (date, purpose, amount).
Please note: some expenses may be reimbursable and the member may wish to be reimbursed. To determine if your expense fits within the League budget, talk with the team lead for the activity and/or Treasurer Deb Busey. |
Schedule a team meeting?
LWVCC uses Zoom for most of its online group meetings. Attendees are usually sent an email invitation to a meeting that includes appropriate links to join the meeting.
You can set up your own free Zoom account and then use it to schedule small group meetings. Meetings between 2 people have no time limit but others (more than 3 participants) are limited to 40 minutes, which is long enough for many team meetings. If you end up using Zoom a lot, you may want to get past the 40 minute barrier by purchasing a personal Zoom license (about $140/year). Or, you can ask to use the League's Zoom account; contact Theresa Michelson for information. Regardless of how you access Zoom, if you don't know how to use Zoom, it's a good idea to do a practice session before running a team meeting through Zoom. Ask your teammates, other members or Member Services to give you a start. |
Announce a League event via press release or social media?
This answer needs to be edited due to changes in the Communications team. In the meantime, talk with team leads in Voter Registration Youth Outreach or Member Services for advice.
Arrange for an event to be posted to the League's Calendar?
Send an email to Lynda Minor or Linda Bair with the title, date, time, description, who may attend and how; include a link or contact for registering.
Get a copy of the official League logo?
You can find sample formats on the national League's Illinois logo page. Download the file for Champaign County. It will be a zip file that needs to be expanded. The League logo should only be used for official League activities or correspondence.
Create a graphic for my League activity?
Several teams and individuals in the League have experience to share. Technical advisor James Manrique is a long-time user of the commercial software Canva.
2. The Voter Registration team has been using the commercial software Canva to develop election-related graphics. See their Grow the Vote page for examples. Contact Linda Bair. 3. The Social Media team also has expertise in graphics for social media. Contact Kanittha Faye. |
Upload a video to the League's YouTube site?

Currently the League's YouTube site has these categories of videos:

Tell the League about a friend who wants to join or volunteer?
Send an email to all League members?
If the email is to announce a League event, the organizer of the event is responsible for initiating the process, drafting an email and getting it to the person who does mailings (currently James Manrique). If it's not related to a League event or regular practice (such as mailing out monthly newsletters), talk with President Trisha Crowley about your request.
