Description: This team collect all LWVCC documentation, including all formats and media; creates a digital finding aid that links the UIUC and The Urbana Free Library collections, creates a digital strategy for access to League materials, in keeping with UIUC and The Urbana Free Library policies. 1/12/2021 BJ
Book Club - Team lead: Annette Lansford
Members: Lila Sullivan and Karla Peterson
Description: The Book Club holds meetings to discuss books on current topics related to the League's scope. Book Club meetings are approximately quarterly. Previous books discussed were: Fascism by Madeline Albright, The Woman's Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote by Elaine Weiss, Why We’re Polarized by Ezra Klein and Caste by Isabelle Wilkerson. Candidate Forums team - Team lead: Johna Von Behrens
Description: LWVCC takes pride in hosting candidate forums at the local level across the United States. Candidate Forums are televised forums moderated by the League prior to both the primary and general elections as a way for community members to learn about candidates, gain a broader understanding of their political platforms, and form an opinion on each candidate. The Forums are co-hosted by LWVCC, NAACP, and the News-Gazette. In fall 2020, due to Covid-19, the Forums were held online. For the spring 2021 Primary Election, the Forums will be pre-recorded and available on YouTube. See the Candidate Forums page for more details. 1/13/2021, JVB
Communication team - Team lead: The board is seeking one or more members to lead this team.

Description: This team plans and supports publicity for the Champaign County League's activities and policy positions, for the benefit of the membership and the entire county. This includes a public relations strategy with a robust social media plan, and solid contacts with community media and other organizations. Depending on the event or position, this could include press releases, and/or social media and email posts. Communication to the chapter's members will include various approaches, so that participation and access to information is available to all generations. Fall, 2020, BJ
A Conversation with the League - Team lead: Carol Bosley
Description: This team manages periodic sessions between LWVCC members and public figures to respond to current community issues. These conversations are presentations followed by question and answers. League members receive information on attending shortly before each event. Fundraising Committee - Team lead: Treasurer Deb Busey
Members: Johna Van Behrens, Cathy Emanuel (Seeking members - desired number is 7 members)
Description: The Fundraising Committee is responsible for development of a plan for raising additional funds for the League through: developing a marketing and branding strategy for the LWVCC; soliciting major donors and building sponsorships for the chapter projects with community businesses and individuals; identifying creative ideas for new and innovative fundraiser events; and supervising and coordinating staffing for LWVCC merchandising events. 1/12/2021 DB
Issue Specialists - Team lead: Trisha Crowley
Description: Illinois LWV Issue Specialists volunteer to learn about an issue and what legislation or activity may be in the offing. Part of their job is to alert local leagues when an issue where the League has a position may be affected by Illinois legislation. These are just a few of the Issue Specialist topics: Electoral College, Redistricting, Graduated Rate Income Tax, Gun Violence Prevention, Immigration, Affordable Housing. Issue Specialists prepare action alerts and share them with all members of the state League, urging them to contact their local legislators. Local Issue Specialists (LWVCC) provide a link between State Specialists and local members to relay information and issue calls to action if legislation is pending. Members Database Manager - Position: Kat Bork
Description: The Members Database Manager (MDM) works with the Member Services to manage League membership records and recommend improvements as needed. The MDM ensures that our membership roster is accurate and regularly updated with complete and correct membership category and contact information. The MDM sends an annual membership report to LWVUS and LWVIL and assists Member Services in the publication of an annual Membership Photo Directory. 1/13/2021 TM

Description: The Member Services Team recruits and retains members for our local League. It manages membership databases, publishes an annual membership directory with photos, and plans and presents new member orientation events. Member Services works with the Volunteer team to connect with members in an effort to introduce them to the committees or work groups that best suit their interests and skills. Our team also plans periodic social events so members can meet and mingle. Team meetings take place via Zoom the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 10 am. Description: This committee provides a slate of board candidates to the board. New board members are voted on at the May Annual Meeting. The Nominating Committee members may vary each year. 1/12/2021 AL
Observer Corps - Team lead: DebbieRugg
Observers: Claire Barkley, Natalie Frankenberg, Jean Flood, Deb Rugg, Nancy Morse, Trisha Crowley and Karen Fresco. Seeking new member/Observers.
Each month, LWVCC observers attend meetings of local governmental boards and commissions. Observers advise the LWVCC board of opportunities for action on League positions, build relationships with local officials, and contribute to the chapter's visibility and credibility. Description: This team develops and presents public programs for LWVCC. In addition to quarterly public presentations, they organize a monthly member meeting, a book club and periodic general meetings with local officials. This team also manages periodic sessions between LWVCC 0members and community leaders on current or developing issues of concern to LWVCC and to the community. Description: The League of Women Voters of Champaign County (LWVCC) sponsors informational public programs with guest speakers. Topics presented in 2019 - 2020 included: Census 101; Census 2020 Forum; Guns and Society; Ranked Choice Voting and Our Community and Covid-19. Description: The function of the Social Media Team is to connect with LWVCC members and the community in order to share the programs and issues supported by LWVCC. These posts help increase our brand awareness and website visits. Additionally, it can serve other teams per request. 1/14/2021 KF

Description: The Volunteer team works with other teams to recruit and welcome new volunteers and to help match them to a good fit within the League's activities. They work with Member Services to ensure that members, particularly new members, are productively engaged with the League. Some activities include record keeping, contacting those who volunteer, working with team leads to develop Volunteer Opportunity lists and publishing opportunities in the newsletter and on the LWVCC website. Voter Education / GOTV / Candidate Guide - Team lead: James Manrique

Description: The Voter Education team produces and maintains an online Candidates Guide that gives voters information about all candidates in contested races. They also conduct various public awareness activities in the community, particularly associated with GOTV (Get Out The Vote) prior to elections, such as posting flyers about voting and elections in public places. This group is planning GOTV activities for the spring 2021 elections. 12/2020, JM
The Voter Newsletter team - Team lead: Theresa Michelson
Members: Cathy Emanuel, Paula Kaufman, Cecile Steinberg. James Manrique, Elisha Roy
Description: Our chapter produces a monthly newsletter, The Voter, to keep members informed of League activities and opportunities. This newsletter is sent to members electronically and also posted on the LWVCC website. Volunteers form a production team to collect, edit and distribute The Voter. Theresa Michelson compiles and organizes the articles and announcements, chooses accompanying images and sometimes writes for The Voter. Cathy Emanuel is responsible for the monthly "Spotlight on New Members" but often contributes other pieces. Articles are edited and proofread by copy editors Paula Kaufman and Cecile Steinberg. The final draft is submitted as a Word document to James Manrique, our digital editor, who adds design touches and sometimes different images as he formats the final copy in MailChimp. It goes back to copy editors Paula and Cecile for one last look before James sends The Voter out to members on the first day of the month. 9/20, TM

Description: The Voter Registration team promotes voting, registration and civic education in Champaign County. The team coordinates with community groups, governmental offices, such as the Champaign County Clerk's Office and other LWVCC teams. In the Covid-19 era, they have shifted their approach from face-to-face events, such as registration drives, to online events and virtual education programs. See the Grow the Vote page for examples. Face-to-face events are considered when appropriate. Description: Voter Services is the umbrella group for a variety of chapter activities related to creating and promoting a voting culture through civic engagement with voters of Champaign County. It includes Voter Education, Youth Outreach and Civic Engagement, Voter Registration and Candidate Forums. This group meets periodically to talk about ideas and ways to work together. 1/2021, AP
Youth Outreach and Civic Engagement (YOCE) - Team leads: Lynda Minor and Rhonda Kirts
Members: China Huff, Jean Flood, Beth Parrott, Ann Prisland (seeking members) (Amy Odell)
Description: The YOCE team encourages civic engagement by promoting voter registration and voter education to young people in the community. YOCE plans to establish student ambassadors in each high school to host voter registration events, mock elections and issues education. The student ambassadors would be members of LWVCC with the hope that they would then become life-long members. Currently, they are focusing on online events and virtual education.
