Voter Registration Team
The Voter Registration team seeks to promote voting and registration. We're a part of the League's Voter Services group. This team coordinates with community groups, governmental offices, such as the Champaign County Clerk's Office, and other League teams. In today's Covid-19 climate, we are shifting our approach from face-to-face events to virtual, online events.

Focus for Summer/Fall 2020
We want to increase voter registration and voting by mail for the 2020 election, particularly for:
- Low income/low turnout/underserved groups
- Registered voters—both regular and irregular voters
- Community organizations/networks
- Employees of large employers
Approach: Virtual
- Use visual, online projects to reach people. Examples are self-produced videos, social media messages and ready-to-use graphics.
- Collaborate with the League's Youth Outreach and Civic Education team that is reaching out online to increase civic participation of local youth.
- Expand to other community-related projects as they arise and resources are available.
Team Meetings
Next meeting: Not yet scheduled. Subteams are working on their tasks preparatory to release of products. Previous meeting minutes: Team Meetings Agendas and Summaries.

Video Projects
- Two Core Videos - Two core videos, approximately 2-3 minutes each, will cover “How to Register Online” and “How to Register By Mail." These will be fairly general, so they can be used in a variety of situations, such as other videos, sent to community organizations and featured in social media. Contact: Ann. Status: Funding from the League was provided for the first video. A local studio has produced a first draft of the Online Registration video. We're currently doing a final review.
- Theme Video: Vote Safely From Home - This video will speak to anyone who doesn't want to leave their homes to vote, perhaps due to concerns about Covid-19, but perhaps for other reasons as well. The message is that you can register online at home and vote by mail (the two core videos). Anyone who does both of these is social distance voting. This video will link to the online registration and vote-by-mail videos. Contact: Karen.
Status: The team is working on the content and scripts for the videos. and will go to the vendor in mid July. We've also applied for additional League funding for this video.
Cartoon Project: Wonder Vote
- The “Wonder Voter” cartoon is a 4-panel cartoon featuring a nervous voter and a cartoon hero who answers voter registration question. We have content but need someone with cartooning skills to make it happen. The team brainstormed a future idea for a “League of Wonder Voters” (LWV!) series. Contact: Pat.
Status: One of our team members has a nephew who has drafted the first cartoon. It's in process but the artist will not be able to continue past one cartoon, so we are keeping our eyes open for other cartoonists who may want to help in the future. The first draft is being finalized and we're thinking about how/where to use this first effort.
Election Messages Project
- Create a set of graphics/messages that can be used for the run-up to November 3. Examples might be a simple "Go Vote" images or a graphic with key election dates and reminders. Contact: Linda or Ann
- Send these graphics/message out from June/July to Election Day on November 3.
Status: Our first set of messages about Online Registration have been posted here. We're now preparing to send out email notices, social media messages and other publicity about their availability. While that is wrapping up, a second team is working on messages about Vote by Mail. We hope this one will be a little faster than the first one, ie that we will have learned how to do this! For example we will have sample emails and social media postings in hand next time. Also our graphics team has developed a systematic review process for the messages, using folders in the Canva system; we won't have to invent that again!
