Meet the LWVCC Board

2020-2021 Board


Trisha Crowley, President

Trisha Crowley has been a member of the League since the 1980’s. She has previously served in many positions  for this League , including previous terms as President.  Trisha was Deputy City Attorney for the City of Champaign since 1991 and prior to that was a Champaign County Assistant State’s Attorney.  She is currently on the Champaign Public Library Board.  ​Contact President.LWVCC@gmail.com

Ann Panthen, Vice President

Ann Panthen joined the League in 2020.  Her interest in the democratic process spurred her into getting more involved with the League and in 2021 she took over the position of Vice President, serving out a one-year term. In that position she is able to work with many of the League committees in the important work they do. Prior to retirement she spent her career in the world of public safety communications, primarily with METCAD 9-1-1, the police, fire, EMS dispatching system in Champaign County, retiring as Deputy Director in 2012.  She currently works part-time in the Champaign County Historical Archives at The Urbana Free Library. Contact Contact VP.LWVCC@gmail.com.LWVCC@gmail.com


Deb Busey, Treasurer

Deb Busey joined the LWVCC in 2016.  Deb enjoyed a long career in county government - 20 years in the State's Attorney's Office followed by 20 years in Administration where she served as County Administrator from 1998 until her retirement in 2016.  She is a past president of the Junior League of Champaign-Urbana, has served on the Champaign Public Library Board, the Champaign County Nursing Home Board, and the Stewardship Council of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.  In addition to working with the League of Women Voters Champaign County as Treasurer, she is also currently serving on the U-I Friends of English Board. Contact Treasurer.LWVCC@gmail.com

Kathy Hatch, Secretary

Kathy is retired from the University of Illinois after serving in 3 different financial/business positions on campus.  She is involved with several other organizations in various capacities. She and her husband travel frequently between Chicago (where son now resides) and Carmel, In (where daughter and family, yes grandchildren!) reside. Contact Secretary.LWVCC@gmail.com


Karen Fresco, Director

Karen Fresco joined the chapter in 2017 upon retiring from the University of Illinois, where she was the resident medievalist in the Department of French & Italian, serving a stint as Head. She helped to establish and then directed the Program in Medieval Studies. A focus of her scholarship has been Christine de Pizan, France’s first woman of letters. She serves on the Observer Corps and co-leads the Voter Registration team.

James Manrique, Director

James Manrique has been a League member since 2019. He is focused on voter education & outreach, including development of the League's Candidate Guide. James has been involved in local activism for the past several years, working hard to promote Voter Turnout through his work with the Champaign County Voters Alliance. When James isn't busy motivating voters, he likes to listen to vinyl records and tend to his plants. 

Carol Bosley, Director

Carol Bosley  joined the League in 2019. Prior to retirement, she worked for 32 years at the University of Illinois in Student Affairs administration.  She has had the unique experience of seeing her name on an election ballot – when running for the St. Joseph Library Board (she won). In January 2017 Carol was part of the grassroots effort that organized buses for 225 local women to join a half million fellow marchers at the Women’s March in Washington.  She is a co-founder of SJOnward, a non-partisan group providing a forum for political discussion and action and promoting diversity and racial equality in the Saint Joseph community.  Since 2018, she and her husband have been residents of Champaign.

Kanittha Fay, Director

  Kanittha Fay joined the League in 2019. Specializing in digital marketing, she helps amplify the league’s message through social media. She is also often out volunteering in the community. Originally from Bangkok, Thailand, she obtained her Master’s Degree from Gies College of Business and has been with Armory House as a Business Manager since 2000. She later earned US citizenship and has been volunteering in every election. In May 2020 and 2021, during the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month, Kanittha was featured nationally as a community volunteer by When We All Vote, a non-partisan partner of the League of Women Voters.


Rhonda Kirtz, Director

Rhonda Kirts joined the League in 2019 and is involved with the Youth Outreach and Civic Engagement Team. She retired from the University of Illinois where she worked in the Office of the Dean of Students.  Rhonda has also served as a Champaign County Election Judge.​

Sara Kelley, Director

Picture
Sara Kelley joined the League in 2019. As an Illinois alumna she spent 30 years working in higher education, first in student affairs (health education) and later in advancement, primarily at the University of Illinois. She retired in 2011 as Assistant Dean for Advancement in the College of Applied Health Sciences. Sara’s volunteer activities include serving on the advancement committee at Wesley Church and Foundation, preparing food for Daily Bread Soup Kitchen as part of the Wednesday crew, and assisting with the formation of the Braver Angels Alliance of East Central Illinois. The latter is dedicated to bridging the political divide within our country. Within the League, she is a member of both the Program and Voter Ready Teams.  ​
