News-Gazette: Candidate Q & A for Consolidated Election 2025
"Your Questions, Their Answers" is the title of a News-Gazette series that began Tuesday, Nov 26, 2024 and continues into 2025. Initially, the series featured questions posed by county residents to the two candidates for Urbana's mayor and ten of the eleven candidates for the Champaign Unit 4 School Board. Questions for other 2025 Consolidated Election candidates are also included in some issues.

Nov 26, 2024: Explain why you are in favor or against the City of Urbana buying automated license plate readers (ALPRs) to be used by the Urbana police department?
Dec 10, 2024: As a bike and pedestrian advocate, I would like to know how you will enhance Urbana's Bicycle Friendly Gold status and improve pedestrian safety.
Dec 17, 2024: What are your plans to ensure that immigrant families feel safe in this communiyt for the next four years in spite of all the current anti-immigrant rhetoric?
Dec 24, 2024: As an Urbana resident of nearly 35 years, I have witnessed many businesses come and go. What is your plan to promote economic growth and stabiity within our community?
Dec 31, 2024: If elected, what are your top one or two economic development priorities, and what specific strategies would you implement to achieve them?
Jan 7, 2025: Can you talk about how you plan to support youth from our most vulnerable populations, specifically the increasing percentage of Black children who have historically struggled in traditional K-12 public education?
Jan 14, 2025: How do you plan on reducing crime in the community---more specifically, areas that may affect the youth or put them at risk?

Nov 26, 2024: How are you going to build trust between the school board and our community? How are you going to ensure you hear voices from familiies of different socioeconomic, racial and ethnic groups,. including our families who speak languages other than English at home?
Dec 10, 2024: What steps would you take to ensure an environment that attracts and retains high-quality talent (teaching, administrative, and classified)?
Dec 17, 2024: How do you plan to guide our school district in navigating the new presidential administration's planned federal policy changes in education, including the reduction of diversity initiatives in education, the rollback of protections for LGBTQIA+ students and the broader elimination of the Department of Education's role in supporting public education?
Dec 24, 2024: As a school board member, how would you evaluate Schools of Choice and its effectiveness in meeting the needs of students and families? Would you support looking into another elementary school-assignment system?
Dec 31, 2024: The last few union negotiations came very close to a strike. In what ways will you supoprt the development of a contract wth the teachers' union that best meets the needs of the teachers and the community?
January 7, 2025: Since no additional permanent seats were added to the existing three middle schools in the last referendum, do you hve a plan for adding capacity without using portable classrooms? Woud you be in favor of building a fourth middle school and, if so, where? How would you proposed paying for it?
