WHY VOTE? Student Video Challenge

Picture

Your video could go viral by convincing your peers and friends to participate in democracy—and VOTE during this upcoming election. Show them how to make their voices heard, make a difference, and make a change. We need the inspiration, vision and creativity of all Champaign County high school-age students to create 30-60 second nonpartisan videos. You’ll have the chance your video will go viral and be used for League of Women Voters of Champaign County (LWVCC) promotional purposes.

The challenge is sponsored by the LWVCC. This nonpartisan initiative aims to increase civic engagement and voter turnout among young people—one video at a time. Students submit short videos on the importance of voting, convincing their peers to cast a ballot for the November 3, 2020 election. The LWVCC reserves the right to use submissions for advertising, publicity and promotional purposes.

The League of Women Voters will select videos from among those submitted for recognition on the LWVCC website.

Guidelines
Your videos should...
  • Be no more than 30-60 seconds long and less than 300MB.
  • Be creative and convince young people to vote in the upcoming election.
  • Be nonpartisan, meaning you cannot mention candidates or parties.
  • Have an effective message so the LWVCC will use your video for promotional purposes.
  • Include lawful, appropriate and inclusive language and behavior (e.g., no obscenity, nudity, bigotry, racism, hatred, personal/political attacks).
  • Be produced using students’ preferred medium, animated or live action with no professional assistance. Adults may provide verbal guidance. Any nonstudent involvement must be noted on the online submission form.
  • Be created by an individual or group of students. Groups of students may work as a team on a video that is then submitted by only one of the participants (the submitter). Each individual or group may submit multiple videos.
  • Be received by the LWVCC by 11:59 pm July 12, 2020.  (Deadline extended from June 30.)
Requirements
Participants…..
  • Involved in creating, directing and presenting your video are current or just-graduated 9th–12th grade students or equivalent-grade homeschool students.
