Introduction:  New and experienced voters alike have questions about voting--how to register to vote, what are the options for voting, how is the voting process kept secure.  This series of nonpartisan, factual responses is provided by the Office of the Champaign County Clerk and the LWV of Champaign County.  The News-Gazette published these Voting Q&As each week before the June 28, 2022 Primary Election. We've collected all the Voting Q&As here as a resource for all those who want to review and use them.  Scroll down to the end to see more detail about how this information was researched and prepared.

Researching and Drafting the Voting Q&As

The LWVCC Voter Ready team is committed to providing information about voting issues, including responses to a wide range of frequently asked questions that you'll see on this page. Thank you to League members who researched and drafted the initial responses: Pat Babich-Smith, Karen Fresco,  Paula Kaufman, Sara Kelley, Beth Martin, Ruth Mitchell, Ann Prisland, Joan Volkmann, and Mary Ellen Wuellner. The LWVCC team working on this project began by gathering questions. Some we had heard from voters or had ourselves. Some were already addressed on the County Clerk's website but seemed important to include in order to share the information more widely. 

Once we had the questions, we consulted several offical information sources: Champaign County Clerk website (champaigncountyclerkil.gov), the Illinois Election Code (https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ChapterID=3&ActID=170), and the State Board of Elections voter information (https://www.elections.il.gov/#News). We also consulted Board of Elections publications available on their website: 2022 Precinct Elections Manual and Pollwatchers Guide. 

We then created draft responses addressing each question. Other team members reviewed and edited the initial drafts. Questions and draft responses were then shared with the Office of the Champaign County Clerk for their review and editing consistent with current voting and election procedures.  ​
