League Teams & Activities

The diagram below is an overview of the teams and activities that make the League work.  Below the diagrams are listings for each team with more detail and contact names and emails.  If you're not sure who to contact, send a general inquiry to info@[email protected] with your question.

Issues & Advocacy
  • Issues & Action Trisha Crowley, Email: [email protected]. Advocates for public policies based on established League positions. Educates League members and the public about League issues.
  • Observer Corps Benjamin Beaupré [email protected] Attends meetings to learn how government works and advise the LWVCC Board of  issues that may become items for local study and/or action.

Voter Services
  • Voter Ready Email: [email protected]. Promotes education about voting, elections and voting options in Champaign County. The team registers voters and provides voting information at public tabling events, and collaborates with other organizations to promote registration and voting.  To volunteer to help at public voter events, email [email protected] for access to the SignUpGenius. The SignUpGenius link is also available in issues of the Voter newsletter during election seasons. 
  • Voter Ready's Outreach team provides Voter Registration 101 training for League members and community organizations; Outreach members are available to speak about voting and elections with interested community groups. Team members work with the County Clerk’s office to develop and provide accurate voting information via many LWVCC information channels and public media. 
  • Candidate Forums Trisha Crowley, email [email protected]. Hosts forums and candidate meet-and-greets prior to elections as a way for community members to learn about candidates and their platforms. These programs are often co-hosted by community organizations and businesses, including NAACP and the News-Gazette. In-person forums are video recorded for later access on LWVCC's YouTube site.
  • Candidate Guide James Manrique, email [email protected]. Provides online, nonpartisan information about candidates in contested races as well as information about local referendums. The VoteChampaign.org website also provides links to the Champaign County Clerk’s office and Illinois State Board of Elections for online voter registration and voting information.
  • Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Beth Martin and Carol Baxter. Email [email protected]. Carries out a variety of activities prior to each election to encourage voters to go to the polls, including such as distributing informational flyers to community centers, food pantries, and local businesses.

Youth Outreach & Civic Engagement
  • Youth Outreach and Civic Engagement (YOCE) led by Lynda Minor & Rhonda Kirts, Email: [email protected]. Fosters civic engagement by promoting voter registration and voter education to young people in the community. Students 16 and older from all high schools within Champaign County are encouraged to apply to be Student Ambassadors.

  • Program Team Carol Bosley, Email: [email protected] and Theresa Michelson. Email: [email protected] .  Develops a variety of educational programs for members and the public on topics related to public policy and voting resources.  Some specific activities are:
    • Keeping It Local – A Champaign County Deep Dive on Issues
      Theresa Michelson. Email: [email protected], Carol Bosley, Email: [email protected]. Develops public educational programs that provide information and discussion about current local issues, with local presenters.  
    • In The Know – Around the League in 30 Minutes  Email: Ann Panthen, [email protected]. Produces half-hour sessions for members to learn about LWVCC current and future activities.
    • Coffee and Conversation Corrie Proksa, Email: [email protected]. Arranges for League members to spend an hour with fellow members to enjoy coffee and discussion on various topics.

Marketing & Communications

  • Marketing & Communications Team Sara Kelley Email: Communications. [email protected]. Coordinates marketing and communication activities within and across teams. The goal is to produce consistent and compelling messages that advance the League’s mission across Champaign County. This team works with the 4 teams below.
  • The Voter Newsletter Joan Tousey.  Email: [email protected]. Produces LWVCC's monthly newsletter, The Voter,  to keep members informed of League activities and opportunities.  It is sent to all members electronically and available to community subscribers. Past issues are available on the LWVCC website.
  • Social Media Kanittha Fay. Email: [email protected]. Uses social media such as Facebook and Instagram to connect with LWVCC members and the community in order to share LWVCC programs and issues.
  • Website/Calendar Linda Bair & Mary Ellen Wuellner. Email: [email protected] and [email protected].  Designs and maintains the LWVCC website and public calendar.
  • Youtube James Manrique. Email: [email protected].  Manages LWVCC use of YouTube to display video recordings of many of LWVCC's educational programs.

  • Member Services Theresa Michelson. Email: [email protected], Carol Bosley, Email: [email protected]. Recruits and retains members through a variety of activities, including new member orientation and periodic social events to create community, collegiality and engagement.  ​

Fundraising
  • Fundraising Cloydia Hill Larimore. Email: [email protected]. Develops plans for raising funds to support the work of the LWVCC. Consults with LWVCC teams involved in fundraising activities guiding and coordinating donor relations, sponsorship activities, and fundraising strategies.

Administrative
  • Board of Directors Jane Santogrossi, Email: President, [email protected]  & Vice President Ann Panthen, Email: [email protected]. The Board is responsible for the legal and financial obligations of LWVCC and provides policy direction for League projects and programs. The Vice President consults on archive-related needs.  Each Board member works directly with one or more teams. New Board members are elected every spring on a rotating schedule
  • Technology James Manrique. Email: [email protected]. James manages or consults on various technological needs of the League including YouTube and MailChimp/Digital editor.
