Who Can Register To Vote?
For additional details about voter registration requirements, see the County Clerk's Registration page.

In Illinois, if you are 17 on or before the date of the next Primary Election AND 18 on or before the date of the next General Election, you can also vote in that primary. 

Voter registration requirements in Illinois:
  • Be a US citizen.
  • Be 18 years old on/before the general  election. 
    (For 2024 general election, if you were born on or before  November 5, 2006, you'll meet the age requirement.) 
  • Be at least 17 years old on the day you register to vote. 
  • Have lived in your precinct for at least 30 days before the general election on March 19, 2024.
  • Do not claim the right to vote anywhere else.
  • Are not convicted in a state or federal court and currently serving that sentence.

Register Using the Paper Form

Registration on paper is open now through February 20, 2024.

Many in-person voter registration events provide copies of the paper registration form. You can register at the event using this form or take one home to complete and return to the County Clerk's office later. 

Download the voter registration form from the County Clerk's website.  This form needs to be submitted on or before February 20, 2024.

Register Online

Online registration is open now through March 3, 2024.

Register on your own computer or device 24/7 through March 3, 2024 on the State Board of Elections' voter registration webpage.

Register When You Go to Vote

You have these options for registering on the same day and at the same time you vote: 
  • At Brookens Center, Urbana,  February 21, 2024- March 19, 2024.
  • At ANY campus or countywide Early Voting location. 
    TBD - March 18, 2024  
  • On Election Day March 19, 2024 at ANY voting location. 

Registering when you go to vote is known as grace period registration and voting.
Grace Period Voting
Grace period voter registration and voting is an opportunity for anyone that has missed the regular registration deadlines to register and vote during the same trip. Grace period is available for 27 days before an election and on Election Day. The voter must fulfill all the same requirements to register to vote and once they do, they must register and vote during that same trip.

Anyone eligible to vote in Champaign County can go to any of the early voting sites to grace period register and vote.

An ID and piece of mail no more than 30 days old are required to register. For a detailed list of acceptable ID and address verification, see here.

Check Your Registration

County Clerk

Verify your registration in Champaign County on the  County Clerk's website - My Voting Information.  You will need your name and either the last 4 digits of your Social Security number or your complete Illinois Driver's License/state ID number.

State Board of Elections Registration Lookup

Verify your registration anywhere in Illinois at the State Board of Elections Website - Registration Lookup. You will need your name, birth date and address, including zip code.

Update Your Address
If you are registered to vote in Champaign County but moved within the county since the last election, download a change of address form. Mail it to the County Clerk’s office.

​You can also change your address when you vote in person. Make sure to bring your ID and something from within the last 30 days that shows your name and new address. It can be on paper or electronic.
