Steve Summers, recently sworn in as Champaign County executive, has a full schedule of projects as he takes up his new position. He plans to hire a full-time human resources specialist and a Director of Administration. He will oversee two $20 million construction projects: the expansion of the county satellite jail and the remodeling of the County Plaza building in downtown Urbana. A decision will need to be made about what to do with the old downtown Urbana jail. Summers foresees a good working relationship with the board and plans to seek board input on appointments to governmental boards and commissions.
