​This month, the book club discussed A Woman of No Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win World War II, by Sonia Purnell.

About the book: Virginia Hall, the subject of this nonfiction book, was anything but a woman of no importance. Despite having a wooden leg as the result  of a shooting accident when she was 25, the “Limping Lady” lived, survived, and even excelled in the “man’s world” of espionage and war in France during WW II.  Hall worked for the British Secret Service from 1939-1942 and for the American Secret Service from 1943 until after the end of the war. The German Gestapo named her “the most dangerous spy in France,” doing everything they possibly could to locate and eliminate her. The book reads like a novel.  Sonia Purnell is an award-winning British author who spent more than three years researching Virginia Hall in preparation for writing this remarkable biography. ​​
